Shocking Oprah Moments Even Her Fans Don’t Know
Oprah Winfrey, 63, has been welcomed into countless living rooms over the past few decades. She has persevered through the many hardships that she experienced as a child and she has lived a fulfilling life of gratitude and giving back to others. Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about Oprah.
1. Her Name Is Actually Orpah

Winfrey’s name on her birth certificate is actually Orpah Winfrey. The former queen of daytime talk was named after a biblical character in the Book of Ruth. The name was mispronounced so frequently that Winfrey started going by Oprah to make things easier — and it just stuck.
2. She Gave Birth To A Son When She Was 14

Winfrey became pregnant when she first entered her teen years and gave birth to a son at age 14. She had been raped and tried to hide her pregnancy because she was ashamed. The baby died after being born premature. In 2015, Oprah revealed the name she had given her deceased son: Canaan.
3. She’s A Dog Lover

Winfrey never had human children of her own, but she loves animals and has five dogs (pictured). She has a cocker spaniel named Sadie, two golden retrievers named Luke and Layla, and two springer spaniels named Sunny and Lauren. She lovingly refers to them as her “fur children.” She raises them with the love of her life. Click the next slide to read about him.
