She\u2019s disappointed when they refuse, but Homer, as his usual oblivious self, ends up taking them all to the carnival anyways. Once there, they want to go on all fun rides, with Bart expressing his enthusiasm over trying the \u201cYard Work Simulator,\u201d&nbsp;despite his reluctance to perform any actual yard work earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Simpsons predicts smartwatches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/the-simpsons-predicts-smartwatches-1731621070.jpg\" alt=\"Hugh talking on his smartwatch\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;predictions, the Holy Grail remains the Donald Trump premonition in Season 11\u2019s \u201cBart to the Future.\u201d&nbsp;This is just a throwaway line in a flash forward episode showing Lisa as President of the United States, but before that, \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;had a different peek into the future with Season 6\u2019s \u201cLisa\u2019s Wedding.\u201d&nbsp;It sees Lisa almost getting married to her first love, Hugh Parkfield. When his first attempt at a proposal goes wrong, he immediately speaks into a phone located on his wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video calling continues making things awkward<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/video-calling-continues-making-things-awkward-1731621071.jpg\" alt=\"Marge Simpson with fingers crossed over a video phone\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLisa\u2019s Wedding\u201d&nbsp;actually has quite a few technological predictions that were supposed to come out in the far-off year of 2010 \u2014 in case you need to be reminded of how long \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;has been airing. After Hugh proposes, Lisa calls Marge on a video phone to tell her the good news. Much like Hugh\u2019s smartwatch featuring a flip phone, the video calling device has some old-school sensibilities, such as how you still need to input a number using a rotary dial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Robot librarians slowly taking over<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/robot-librarians-slowly-taking-over-1731621071.jpg\" alt=\"Robot librarian eye learking water\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;certainly didn\u2019t invent robots, and society has been hard at work trying to create these mechanical entities. Sometimes, this leads to useful inventions, but other times, it leads to some truly haunting robots getting put out into the world. In \u201cLisa\u2019s Wedding,\u201d&nbsp;the robots featured here \u2014 not counting the tin men seen toward the beginning \u2014 include a librarian whose face catches fire after crying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Simpsons had 3D-printed food first<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/simpsons-had-3d-printed-food-first-1731621072.jpg\" alt=\"Marge holding a cake with a picture of Bart and Lisa\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Season 16\u2019s \u201cFuture-Drama,\u201d&nbsp;yet another peek into what could happen if the Simpson family ever aged, sees Bart and Lisa graduating high school. Marge takes a picture of the two before they go to prom, only for the photo to expand into a cake. Marge then exclaims, \u201cIt\u2019s so great. We can do anything now that scientists have invented magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Simpsons get a smart house before it\u2019s cool<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/the-simpsons-get-a-smart-house-before-its-cool-1731621073.jpg\" alt=\"Marge talking to Lisa about their new smart home on The Simpsons\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It often takes a more far-out framing device to see \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;dabble with new technology. \u201cTreehouse of Horror XII\u201d&nbsp;includes a segment where the family gets a new smart home, tricked out by a nefarious AI voiced by Pierce Brosnan. It does everything for them, from cooking their favorite foods to cleaning the dinner table. Of course,&nbsp;the AI also falls in love with Marge and tries to kill Homer, but before that, it shows off some pretty nifty technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Herb Powell paved the way for baby translators<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/herb-powell-paved-the-way-for-baby-translators-1731621074.jpg\" alt=\"Herb Powell using baby translator to figure out what Maggie's saying\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On Season 2 of \u201cThe Simpsons,\u201d we learn Homer has a half-brother named Herb, who is voiced by Danny DeVito. He\u2019s a successful businessman who loses his fortune by the end of the episode due to Homer\u2019s incompetence. Fortunately, he gets redemption in Season 3\u2019s \u201cBrother Can You Spare Two Dimes\u201d&nbsp;when he borrows money from Homer for a gadget that\u2019ll put him back on top \u2014 a baby translator. Maggie Simpson makes for the perfect test subject, as he analyzes her coos to figure out what she\u2019s really trying to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Springfield gets the Apple Vision Pro first<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/img\/gallery\/every-time-the-simpsons-predicted-new-technology-and-got-it-right\/springfield-gets-the-apple-vision-pro-first-1731621076.jpg\" alt=\"Agnes Skinner walking through Springfield wearing VR headset\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The history of practical VR goes back decades, usually involving people wearing some kind of goggle-esque headset to see things that aren\u2019t really there. \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;certainly didn\u2019t invent the aesthetic, but it\u2019s hard not to see similarities between the VR headsets featured in Season 28\u2019s \u201cFriends and Family\u201d&nbsp;and the Apple Vision Pro, which would come out eight years after the episode.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Yard Work Simulator became FarmVille On \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d&nbsp;Season 9, Episode 12 \u2014 \u201cBart Carny\u201d&nbsp;\u2013 Marge tries to get the kids to do some yard work.
